REDEFINING MODERN LIFE IN A HISTORIC BUILDING - NATURAL MATERIALS, LIGHT AND TRADITIONAL WORKING TECHNIQUES MAKE THIS SINGLE-FAMILY HOME, LOCATED IN THE HISTORIC CENTER OF GRADO/ITALY, UNIQUE

Since the world is constantly changing, people start taking a different look at everyday's elements of life - so do we! Transforming a building with centuries-old history into a modern home represents a great challenge for our client as well as for us as architects. The most important decisions to make for this project were to define the right solutions to transform this traditional Italian multi-family home formerly inhabited by up to eight residents into a young couple´s nest.

Our design approach was to create a large living/dining area with a panoramic terrace in the attic followed by two subjacent floors consisting of bedrooms, bathrooms and adjoining rooms as well as a spacious entrance area with wardrobe on the ground floor. The fact that nowadays many traditional working techniques are getting lost more and more, another important aspect for us was to reintroduce a mix of natural and raw materials processed at the highest level of craftsmanship, interiors included.
